While I pay a great deal of attention to the foods and nutrients that I’m putting into my body each day, protein is something that I pay extra attention to. By making sure that I hit my macro goals each day, I feel energized, I perform at my best and my recovery is much faster. I’ve tried them all, including Transparent Labs, 1st Phorm Level-1 and Clean Simple Eats. I decided to switch things up after taking a look at Momentous Protein. I’ve used it for so many things, like my morning smoothie, baking, protein shakes, etc.

Let’s get into the details of this product.

The HOT Takes!

Grass Fed Whey Protein

Momentous Whey Protein Isolate

  • Based on grass-fed whey protein
  • There are only 24 servings per container, which is something to keep in mind if you’re going to be using this product daily.
  • Comes in unflavored, vanilla and chocolate.
  • Completely gluten-free
  • ProHydrolase has been added to enhance the absorption and utilization of protein.
  • It may take two to four weeks to see the full potential of using this product.

Choose Momentous Whey Protein if…

  • You’re looking for a clean, whey-based protein supplement.
  • Absorption is something you’re concerned about.

It’s not a good fit if…

  • You’re looking for immediate results.
  • You want more than 20 grams of protein in each serving.

Other Whey Protein Powders I’ve Tried and You Should Consider Too

I’ve tried so many different protein powders over the years. Here are some of my other favorites:

1st Phorm Level-1

One of the best mixing products I’ve come across, 1st Phorm Phormula-1 contains 20 grams of low-temperature processed microfiltrated whey protein isolate. 1st Phorm advertises that their protein works quickly, potentially after your first serving. There are 12 different flavors available, and I’ve tried almost every single one. My favorite is the magical charms variety. You can also stick to your traditional chocolate and vanilla flavors if you prefer. Level-1 pairs well with a variety of other 1st Phorm products, like their Ingnition glycogen recovery supplement.

Clean Simple Eats

Clean Simple Eats protein features an extremely clean ingredient list. Made from grass-fed whey protein isolate, you get 20 grams of protein in each serving. There are only 110 calories in each serving and under 10 grams of carbs. I love the flavor choices from Clean Simple Eats. They have options available, like chocolate brownie batter, simply vanilla, coconut cream and cookies and cream.

Transparent Labs Whey Protein

If you’re looking for an impressive amount of protein, Transparent Labs Whey Protein features 28 grams of protein in each serving! It’s also based on grass-fed whey without the use of growth hormones. The macro count varies a bit from one flavor to the next, but most varieties include just one gram of carbs and one gram of fat.

My Momentous Whey Protein Review and Experience

making a protein shake with momentous whey protein

I liked Momentous Whey Protein when I first came across it because it was developed with athletes in mind. By perfecting a formula that keeps performance in mind, this product contains grass-fed whey protein that is sourced from European dairy farmers according to rigorous agriculture standards. A cold processing method helps preserve the whey’s natural protein structure. ProHydrolase has been added, which is a supplement that accelerates muscle recovery and helps build muscle mass. It’s used in a variety of protein supplements and meal-replacement products. Created with the assistance of registered dieticians and human performance specialists, I suspected that Momentous Protein was going to be a promising product to try for myself.

How I Found Momentous Whey Protein

I came across Momentous Whey Protein just by doing a few searches for clean protein powder on the internet. After doing a little bit of reading on how the product is made and where the whey is sourced from, I was convinced that this product was worth my time and money. I chose a one-time purchase, which, unfortunately, is a bit expensive. You can save over $10 per package if you subscribe and save. I wasn’t sure if I would like this product, so I wasn’t ready for a subscription yet.

I Decided to Give It A Try!

Depending on what the rest of my diet looks like, I sometimes have trouble with whey-based protein powders. The other ingredients and the manufacturing process can also make a difference in how well I can digest protein. Momentous Whey is very clean, and I liked that the ProHydrolase is supposed to help with the digestion process. I didn’t experience any kind of discomfort when using this product, even at first.

On the Momentous website, it’s advertised that this protein supplement can take a few weeks to really kick in as far as performance and recovery are concerned. I don’t feel like it took me that long to notice a difference, but I already use protein on a daily basis. Maybe that impacted my experience. I definitely felt energetic on the days that I used Momentous Protein (which was pretty much every day). I performed well in the gym, and my recovery period wasn’t even really noticeable. I didn’t experience soreness unless I really worked out hard.

Rating the Taste and Texture (Smoothness)

protein powder in glass

I’m very picky about the overall consistency of my smoothies and protein shakes. I really don’t like a product that doesn’t mix well. I was impressed with Momentous Whey Protein and how well it mixed, even in a shaker bottle. I usually use a blender to make my drinks at home, but there are times when I’ll take a scoop of protein on-the-go with me. I’ll add water later on when I want to make my shake. This wasn’t a problem either. The texture was very smooth, regardless of how I prepared it. The taste was also very creamy and pleasant. It wasn’t too sweet, and it didn’t have an aftertaste.

How I Used Momentous Whey Protein Powder

My first Momentous Protein purchase was the unflavored variety. I usually combine half an avocado, a handful of blueberries, a cut-up apple and various other fruits or veggies into my concoction. I put my serving of protein into my smoothie and didn’t notice a change in the flavor at all. I was thrilled to be getting clean protein as part of my morning drink.

Baking

I like to use protein powder in other ways besides just drinks. I have a few muffin recipes that I make regularly for myself and my kids. I added a couple of scoops of Momentous Whey Protein to my recipe for a nice burst of protein.

High-Protein Smoothies

I usually start my day with a protein shake or smoothie. I have a bit of a sensitive gut, and it helps to ease my way into my day by sticking with liquids early on. That being said, I still want to make sure that I’m consuming enough protein for breakfast.

Adding it to my Oatmeal for Breakfast

Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Oats are a staple in our household. I love a bowl of overnight oats or cooked oats in the morning. I’ll usually top my oatmeal with fruit of some sort. Adding a scoop of protein to the oats is a great way to boost the nutritional value of this breakfast.

Regular Protein Shakes With a Shaker Bottle

I’ve taken a scoop of Momentous Whey Protein on-the-go as well. I put a scoop into my shaker bottle, toss it in my bag and bring some water along with me. I add the water at the last minute and give everything a shake.

How Much Does It Cost?

A one-time purchase of 24 servings of Momentous Whey Protein costs $64.95. That’s $2.70 per serving. If you subscribe to regular deliveries, the cost is $51.96. That works out to $2.16 per serving.

Would I Recommend It to a Friend?

I have recommended Momentous Protein to many of my friends. With a moderate 20 grams of protein per serving, it’s definitely one of my top protein products. I often have conversations with some of my friends at the gym regarding the products that we’ve been trying lately. We’re all very interested in staying on top of the cleanest and healthiest fitness supplements and products.

Increasing your protein intake has a number of benefits. This includes increasing your energy, promoting muscle gain, speeding up recovery time after workouts and helping with weight loss. While you can increase protein consumption through your diet, using a whey protein supplement is another great option.

There are a lot of options out there. Let’s take a look at two brands I like: Promix and Transparent Labs. For the purpose of this article, I want to cover whey protein products.

The Hot Takes

Most popular

Promix Whey Protein

  • Designed to build muscle and improve recovery, Promix is an excellent whey protein for fitness enthusiasts.
  • There are six flavor options available from Promix.
  • Promix has 25 grams of protein in each serving, along with 5.9 grams of branched-chain amino acids.

Choose Promix Whey Protien if…

  • You want to avoid gums, fillers and antibiotics in your whey protein.

Transparent Labs Whey Protein

  • Transparent Labs provides 28 grams of protein in each serving in their whey protein isolate.
  • There’s a really large selection of flavors available from Transparent Labs, including dark chocolate, cinnamon French toast and vanilla oatmeal cookie.
  • Transparent Labs Whey Protein Isolate is made with clean and safe ingredients. No fillers, additives or artificial colors.

Choose Transparent Labs Whey Protein if...

  • You want whey protein that comes from grass-fed cows that haven’t been exposed to antibiotics or steroids.
  • You want almost 30 grams of protein per serving.

Other Whey Protein Powders to Consider

Interested in other whey protein options? Here are some of my other favorites:

1st Phorm Phormula-1

1st Phorm boasts that their Phormula-1 whey protein is one of the best-tasting products on the market. It mixes well and contains 20 grams of protein in each serving. A low-temperature processing method has been used to increase assimilation speed and amino acid retention. You can pair Phormula-1 with other 1st Phorm products, such as their Ignition Recovery supplement.

Optimum Nutrition Grass-Fed Whey

Optimum Nutrition offers a 100% whey protein supplement that contains 24 grams of protein in each serving. Also included are 5.5 grams of naturally occurring branch-chain amino acids. Each serving contains three grams of carbs and less than two grams of fat. It’s free of fillers and artificial ingredients. This product is unique in that it includes whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate and hydrolyzed whey protein.

What is Promix Grass-Fed Whey Protein?

promix whey protein

Comprised of whey protein concentrate, Promix Grass Fed Whey Protein has a complete profile of omega-3 fatty acids. It’s made from milk from grass-fed cows that are rBST-free. Each serving contains 25 grams of protein and nothing artificial. This is a very clean product that features traceable testing for every batch.

Six different flavors are available, including chocolate, unflavored, vanilla and peanut butter. Promix flavors their products using actual food. Their peanut butter chocolate variety is made using Texas peanuts and raw organic cacao.

My Experience With Promix Whey

I used Promix Whey with good results. Here’s what I thought:

Taste

I tried the chocolate peanut butter version of Promix Whey as well as the unflavored variety. I like the unflavored option because I can add it to my fruit smoothies that I make first thing in the morning for breakfast. The peanut butter variety was a bit sweet. I liked it later in the day for an afternoon snack.

Mixability

Promix blends together very quickly. I often added it to a shaker bottle, and it took about 20 seconds to mix. It also mixed very well in my blender.

Results

I like the amount of protein that’s in this product. To consume 25 grams in a single serving was an excellent option for me when I wanted to ensure I had enough energy for a workout. I also feel like this product helped me with my recovery time.

What is Transparent Labs Grass-Fed Whey Protein?

transparent labs whey protein isolate

Transparent Labs Grass Fed Whey Protein is one of my favorite protein-focused products. It’s hard to find a product that provides more protein than this. With an average of 28 grams of protein per serving, I noticed I was much more energetic when I used this product. I looked forward to getting my workout in. I also felt full for longer periods of time, so I didn’t feel the need to snack as much throughout the day.

This is a very pure product that helps hydrate the muscles, enhance blood flow and balance nitric oxide production in the body.

My Experience With Transparent Labs Whey

I have been using Transparent Labs Whey for a couple of years now. It’s a product that I currently have in my pantry right now. Here’s what I think of it:

Taste

I love the taste of Transparent Labs Whey Protein. My favorite flavors are dark chocolate and sugar cookie. They are a bit sweet, but not overwhelming at all. The texture is very smooth, adding to the overall taste.

Mixability

I like how Transparent Labs Whey mixes. I’ve used it both in a shaker bottle and in a blender. It blends a little better with a blender, but shaking it for about 30 seconds results in a very smooth beverage.

Results

I love the protein content of this product. It helps energize me and boost my recovery after working out. I’ve even used this product when I wasn’t feeling well in order to get some additional calories in my body.

Comparison Section of Transparent Labs vs. Promix Protein

How do these two whey protein options match up? Read on to find out more.

Comparing Formulas

The formulas for these two products are pretty similar. They are both based on whey that is sourced from grass-fed cows. You don’t have to worry about hormones or antibiotics being in the final product.

You do get a few extra grams of protein in Transparent Labs’ product. Depending on the flavor, TL has 28 grams of protein in each serving, compared to 25 grams in Promix products.

Comparing How It Mixes and How It Tastes

Both Promix and Transparent Labs have protein powders that mix incredibly well. Like I mentioned, I’ve mixed them both using a shaker bottle as well as a blender. I like the final product when using a blender, but they’re both very smooth as long as you shake them long enough.

The taste of both products is very good. Depending on the variety, I find some of the flavors for each brand to be a little sweet. However, it’s nice that both companies offer an unflavored version that I can add to a fruit smoothie.

Comparing Price

The cost of Promix Whey Protein is currently $49 for a one-time purchase. This is a very affordable price compared to other similar products on the market. You can save a few extra dollars by signing up for a subscription or buying larger quantities of product.

Transparent Labs sells their Whey Protein Isolate for $59.99 for a one-time purchase. A subscription saves you $6 and includes free shipping.

What Are the Main Differences Between Promix and Transparent Labs?

The main difference between these two products is that Promix uses whey protein concentrate. Transparent Labs uses whey protein isolate. The difference between these two ingredients has to do with how they are processed. Isolate tends to have a bit more protein, less carbs and less fat.

Also, Transparent Labs offers more flavor options. I prefer that Promix uses natural ingredients to flavor their products, whereas Transparent Labs uses non-organic natural flavors.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a whey-based protein powder that provides clean protein without unnecessary ingredients or additives, both Promix and Transparent Labs offer excellent options. I’ve used them both, and I can say that they’re both incredibly high-quality protein supplements.

My Recommendations

I would recommend looking at both of these products a little more in depth to see if one stands out more than the other. Transparent Labs offers the protein isolate option, which increases protein and lowers fat and carb content. However, Promix is still an excellent product to consider.

Weight loss can be a challenge, especially as we get older. For me, I’ve seen a huge difference in the process of losing weight after hitting the age of 40. I remember the good old days of being able to eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound. Now, it seems like one day of indulgence leads to a few pounds that just don’t want to come off. Of course, treating yourself once in a while is important. What can you do to get back on track? I have just the solution.

Lyfe Fuel and Rootana are also excellent options if you’re looking for a healthy afternoon snack or want to up your protein and carbohydrate intake for fitness purposes. Lyfe Fuel minimally processes their ingredients to help retain as much of the nutritional composition of these ingredients as possible.

There’s a lot of different ingredients included in Lyfe Fuel, which you can view on the company’s website. However, some of the key information you need to know includes:

This consists of ingredients such as brown rice, yellow peas and flaxseed. This is where a lot of the protein comes from.

There are 27 essential nutrients in Lyfe Fuel, such as vitamins B12, D3, K2, B8 and more.

Digestive Blend

There are six different probiotic strains in Lyfe Fuel.

My Experience Using Lyfe Fuel

I was initially very impressed with the versatility of the ingredients in Lyfe Fuel. It’s a very clean recipe that I was looking forward to trying. My intention was to find a meal replacement shake that I could use on days where I felt like I needed a light lunch or wanted a boost of protein and nutrients in the middle of a busy afternoon.

I liked the taste and texture of Lyfe Fuel upon trying it. I didn’t notice any kind of immediate burst of energy, but I definitely felt like it kept me focused throughout the day. I didn’t feel like I was dragging myself into the gym on the days I used this product.

I noticed a little GI upset at first, likely from the six strains of probiotics that are included in the digestive health blend. However, it wasn’t horrible. I was able to continue using Lyfe Fuel. I wasn’t necessarily looking to lose a ton of weight with the use of this product, but it did help me keep the pounds off easier.

Pros

  • Very clean formula
  • Contains a large number of essential nutrients.
  • Vegan-friendly protein
  • Helps support gut health.
  • Boosts your immune response

Cons

  • You can only choose between vanilla and chocolate flavors.
  • You don’t quite hit that mark of 20 grams of protein per serving, which a lot of other meal replacement shakes offer. Lyfe Fuel only has 18 grams per serving.

What Is Rootana Meal Replacement Shake?

Rootana has formulated their meal replacement shake to include a complete nutritional profile that reflects a balanced meal. You’ll find the perfect amount of carbs, fats and protein in each serving of Rootana. A lot of research has gone into the design of this product, along with advice from industry experts.

There are a lot of advertised uses for Rootana, which I like. You can use it to keep track of your calorie intake; it’s a great option for a well-balanced meal while on-the-go and Rootana helps with sustained energy thanks to slowly digesting oats and quickly digesting coconut sugar.

What are the Key Ingredients in Rootana?

Rootana is a bit simpler compared to Lyfe Fuel. It contains essential nutrients as part of a vitamin and mineral blend. This includes things like:

  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc
  • Biotin
  • Folic acid
  • Vitamin D3
  • B complex vitamins
  • Other main ingredients include oat flour powder, pea protein isolate, flaxseed powder and coconut sugar.

My Experience Using Rootana

I liked Rootana overall, but it definitely lacked some of the ingredients and benefits that you’ll find in Lyfe Fuel. It has a nice macro balance, but a lot of additional nutrients are missing.

I noticed a quick spike in energy upon drinking Rootana, but that didn’t last very long. I didn’t notice too much of an energy spurt over the next few hours, which you should, because of the oats in Rootana.

Pros

  • Food safety tested
  • Made from high-quality ingredients
  • You can mix Rootana powder with milk or a dairy-free option for a creamier consistency.
  • Great macro-balance

Cons

  • Lacks a lot of the ingredients that you’ll find in Lyfe Fuel and other meal replacement shakes.

Comparison Section of Rootana vs. Lyfe Fuel

You may have noticed that these two products have some distinct differences. Let’s compare Rootana vs. Lyfe Fuel.

Comparing Formulas

Lyfe Fuel definitely has a better formula. It’s packed full of essential vitamins and minerals, probiotics, digestive enzymes, protein, etc. There really isn’t anything missing from this product.

While Rootana has some great nutrients in its formula and provides excellent fat, protein and carbohydrates, it’s not quite as good as Lyfe Fuel’s formula. It’s definitely missing the gut health aspect that Lyfe Fuel provides.

Comparing Taste and Texture

Lyfe Fuel is available in both chocolate and vanilla flavors. Rootana has a natural option that tastes like oats. They also offer vanilla and dark chocolate flavors. Neither is overly sweet or strong.

Both products mix pretty well, providing a smooth texture.

Comparing Price

LYFE Fuel is priced at $74.90 for a one-time purchase of a 24-serving bag. This is a little expensive compared to other options.

Rootana costs $52.99 for a one-time purchase. This works out to be $3.78 per meal. Each pouch only gets you 14 meals.

What Are the Main Differences Between Lyfe Fuel and Rootana?

The formulas for each of these products are very different from one another. I personally prefer Lyfe Fuel for what I’m trying to accomplish with weight maintenance, gut health and overall wellness. It’s very versatile, thanks to all of the different ingredients that are included.

However, Rootana is effective for a lot of people as well. If you’re looking for a product that is very much for replacing a meal, Rootana has that key balance of macros that you might be drawn to. It also has a little bit of extra protein per serving.

Final Thoughts

If you’re going to be using a meal replacement shake to monitor your caloric intake or you’re trying to add more nutrients to your daily diet, it’s important that you take some time to really look at your options. You want to find a product that contains wholesome and healthy ingredients without adding anything artificial or unnecessary.

I personally like Lyfe Fuel as a lunch replacement or an afternoon snack. It really makes me feel like I’m fueling my body and supporting it.

Take a look at both Lyfe Fuel and Rootana, carefully considering their ingredients and what they provide. Once you make a purchase, you’ll be on your way to optimal health in no time.
